For the modern Formula 1 era of the 90’s through into the new millennium, the likes of Michael Schumacher, Mika Hakkinen, Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton have all shone brightly on the world stage.Sebastian Vettel, the youngest driver ever to become F1 champion, is poised to make history with his second F1 championship title in two years. Juan Manuel Fangio, Jim Clark, Jack Brabham, Jackie Stewart, Gilles Villeneuve, Niki Lauda, James Hunt, Aryton Senna & Alain Prost were some of the biggest names through the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. With success comes the attention of the world with many famous drivers enjoying the spotlight through their racing endeavors. The sport has seen many victorious teams throughout the years with Williams, McLaren, Ferrari, Red Bull Racing & Mercedes all enjoying periods of success over the journey. During the 1960’s and 70’s national championships existed in South Africa and the UK, with non-championship Formula One events being held through that period right up to the last race in 1983.į1 has become the worlds premiere racing series, featuring advanced technology, huge budgets, elite drivers and fast lap times. It wasn’t until 1950 that the first world championship race was held in the United Kingdom at Silverstone, with the championship for constructors first taking place in 1958. The rules for a world championship had been laid out before the war, and was not formalised until 1947. The first non-championship races were held that year. in 1946 after World War II, a new formula was agreed upon, which was a new set of rules that all participants’ cars would adhere to. The origins of Formula One lie in the European Grand Prix Motor Racing competition from the 1920’s and 30’s.
